Exciting, New Apple Gadget?

Purpose built gadgets appeal to me on some primal level. Does my phone have a GPS and maps? Absolutely. Do I infinitely prefer holding and using my giant Garmin Montana GPS? YES. Can I play music with my computer? Of course. Would I rather use a click-wheel iPod? YES. Can I play games on my iPad? Of course. Would I rather have that cool, new Gameboy clone from Palmer Luckey? So much yes.

Years ago I bought a HomePod. It was useful, but I never particularly loved it. It was convenient when I wanted to AirPlay play music from my phone, but that's about it. However, the first time I saw a rendering of this rumored Home Hub thing, it resonated with me. An iPad in my hand is useful. An iPad mounted to the wall is an integrated tool. This looks like an appliance, and it has potential.

I'll stop short of saying anything negative about Apple's choices the past five-or-more years, and just say that I'm optimistic about it until proven otherwise.

That device could be released as soon as this spring, according to two of the people.
