Congressman Price....

I am writing regarding HR45 ("Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009"). I am a long-term resident of the state of Georgia (since 1996), I own a small software engineering business and I greatly value my 2nd Amendment rights.

Whenever the opportunity arrises, I vocally pronounce how wonderful Georgia is in terms of many of its laws. It's far from perfect, but it's better than most. The contrast between Georgia and other states wasn't very clear to me until work took me to New York for some projects. I had to leave my guns at home because they're largely illegal to posses up there. There is no right to defend oneself. In that light, HR45 is rather meaningless to residents of New York.

From all appearances, HR45 will do little (or nothing) to prevent criminals from obtaining guns. Criminals have already established a willingness to break laws. Adding more laws won't change that. I loathe the thought of Georgia being reduced to the level of California, New York, Hawaii, Washington DC, etc. Law-abiding citizens should be able to obtain firearms without the Federal government's permission.

Please vote NO on HR45.

I look forward to learning of your position on this matter.

Thank you.

The particularly psychotic thing about HR45 is it's name. Blair Holt apparently shielded a girl, took a bullet and died. If the gun control folks would start advocating criminal control they might actually be effective at doing something.

I know this is a bit of a generalization, and it is only based on my personal experience (which isn't necessarily representative): gun control people tend to be complete pacifists. They're unwilling and unable to defend themselves. Instead of changing, they can reduce the rest of the populace to their level (ie, disarm them). In the particular case I'm thinking of, the husband said that he would be unwilling to take up a gun to defend his family from imminent danger. I maintained my composure in the spirit of profitable conversation, but, I just totally don't get that. And I guess it makes sense that he lives in New York. You don't hear that so much in Georgia, thankfully.

Update: Whoops. That should be HR2666 (note the three 6's. that's no coincidence. definitely.).
