Give me a Freakin' Break. Why Chun Li?

I just found out about this Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li movie. With the many video-game-turned-movie successes (yes, I'm being sarcastic), I guess it was inevitable that Street Fighter would have its turn, but, Chun Li?! Yes, she was the only chic in the game - or at least in Street Fighter II, which is where the game had its peak, in my opinion - but, Ryu was clearly the superior character. He wasn't a cheap character like Chun Li, who had to be given ridiculous "powers" in order to be a reasonable competitor, and he had a good background story. A reason to fight. Chun Li was just ... dumb. So, of course, when they make a movie out of the game, they'd choose Chun Li.

Also, I watched the Wolverine trailer, and, well, it's about bloody time: they finally brought Gambit into the series. Now how am I supposed to figure out who to root for?
