Half Dome

Half Dome

I was out in California for several days and joined a cousin of mine and some of his friends on a trip to Yosemite for the purpose of hiking Half Dome.

As is the case with any hiking group comprised of more than one person, they tend to split up into smaller groups based on the pace at which people are comfortable. Given my genetic inability to ignore competition, I was in the first group. Four-ish hours later when we finally got to the top of Half Dome (some five hours ahead of the next group), we ate lunch and noticed a lot of people wearing red shirts. We investigated further and found that some lady (Kelly Perkins) and her husband (Craig) were just about to finish a three day climb up the face of Half Dome. Kelly had a heart transplant many years ago. Impressive stuff.

The red shirts were being handed out to anyone who would be willing to hang around for a while and form a giant heart shape - which would be photographed by a plane flying over-head.

All that to explain why my medium frame is wearing an bright, red XL t-shirt during my token "diving board" photo on top of Half Dome.

As always, I dragged my GPS along. I used Google Earth to depict the hike with the GPS data.
