Interview

I just got a call from an in-house recruiter for one of the top five social networking sites. Unlike most job calls I get, this person was well spoken and seemingly intelligent. That's definitely a good start. The company sounds interesting enough. It looks like it would be a full-time job, which isn't wonderful. They're in San Francisco, which isn't ideal. They're willing to hire me and wait a few months while I finish my current contract. They're also willing to help get me out of my apartment lease here in NYC.

So, I have a short phone interview tomorrow. It's the weed-out process. If I pass that, there'll be a longer phone interview with a senior developer and that'll be followed by a conversation with a VP. If all of that goes well then they fly me out to SF for the real thing.

All in all, it adds up to a lot of time and hassle. But, the opportunity sounds a lot more interesting than the half a dozen phone calls I get every day for yet another J2EE job. And I like my current job (which I made clear to him). But my current job isn't really challenging in any sense - other than the fact that I have to work 10+ hours a day to get things done fast enough to satisfy the suits. And I actually don't mind that, but, I'd prefer some other forms of challenging as well.

I guess I should brush up on big-O notation and Java generics and other such things. Or I could just bomb the phone interview and then I don't have to worry about this any more.

We'll see.
