MoneyWell is Amazing
MoneyWell is amazing. Way back in the day I just used Excel. Later, I tried my hand (for a couple of years) at Quicken and then MYOB. Unfortunately for both of those products, they suck tremendously. And then eventually I made my way, happily, back to Excel - where I remained until today. Or yesterday, rather.
I woke up this morning when my accountant's office called to schedule my '08 tax appointment. Later in the day I stumbled across MacUpdate Bundle 2008 and saw that it had a piece of finance software included in the ridiculously low limited-time price. I bought it.
One evening later, and I have all of my credit cards and bank accounts entered in, along with every single transaction dating back to the start of 2008. And the totals all nicely line up with each account's corresponding web site.
I use my American Express card for nearly everything; and MoneyWell was able to log in and download all of the transactions. No such luck with either of my SunTrust accounts or cards. But I was able to get an Excel document of the transaction data, export it as a csv and import it into MoneyWell. Then I reconciled the money transfers between accounts (like when paying off a credit card from the checking account). And finally I tossed all of the transactions into appropriate "buckets" (like expense categories).
MoneyWell isn't cut out for running a business, so I'll still use Excel to track my invoices; but everything else is going in here. This is awesome. Well, as awesome as finance software can get. And since I sport a Type A personality, the potential awesomeness is pretty high.
