People who Eat Tasty Animals

I saw a bumper sticker today which read:

I love animals so much
that I don't EAT them.

I thought, "Huh, I love animals so much that I DO eat them." In fact, I certainly wouldn't eat something that I hated. I wonder what her thoughts are on eating vegetables. Must she hate them to consume them, or are they unimportant enough (they don't feel pain?) to not be a concern?

Does anyone know whether Windows has an API for doing "shared vs exclusive" (ie read vs write) mutexes? Someone told me that it did not, and I find that hard to believe. Uneducated opinions on this matter are welcome, just because they'll probably be more amusing than educated opinions.
