Sponsorship
My ever-vigilant and budget-minded climbing partner, Corey, got in his mind that we should seek out sponsorships for our Denali trip. It never would have occurred to me. It all started because a friend of his has some food he wants us to try out on our trip, and he's willing to sponsor us with food and some money in exchange. No complaints here.
Corey sent out letters to several organizations related to our trip. The first one we heard back from was MyTopo. I've bought printed maps from them several times before. GPS maps are all fine and dandy, but they don't compare to that of being able to spread out a large map on a table and plot one's trek.
Anyway, MyTopo is giving us a couple free maps, a gift certificate and some navigation software. I assume it's one of the Terrain Navigator packages. They're Windows-only, so it'll be up to Corey to make use of that.
In exchange, we're apparently going to take some cool photos (including their logo) up at 17k camp. We already have one flag thing we're taking with us from The Mountaineer in Keene Valley, NY. With any luck we'll end up having to take dozens of photos to satisfy everyone. :-)
I hope that he intends to "sell" summit photos for a considerably higher price. Those require *so* much more effort.
