Swimming: Day 3

Swimming: Day 3

Swam 11 x 50 meter laps (550 meters). By the end of the 11th lap my side was hurting more than I cared to endure. It's always my right side. I wonder if I'm using my right arm more than my left or something. I'm going to be lopsided. If it weren't for the lines on the bottom of the pool I'd probably be swimming in tight circles.

What fun would goals be if they were easy to achieve? I've decided that my goal is to swim one mile (1600 meters, more precisely) in thirty minutes. I can easily swim at that pace right now, but not for very long (my arms get tired), which makes me think it'll be doable.

If I swim four days a week for the next three months that'll be fifty-two sessions. If I add one lap every other trip then at the end of three months I'll be swimming the full distance (ie, 1600 meters); although definitely not at the desired pace. I'll work on picking up the pace afterwards.

And what would goals be without presents to back them up? I've been eyeing the SwiMP3v2 from Finis. It presses against your head (held in place by the straps on your goggles and conducts sound through bone. Supposedly it does so fairly effectively. It's expensive though. But with it I could swim laps to tunes instead instead of talking to the lines on the bottom of the pool. It should be good for my sanity.
