Award Winning
Someone recently asked me if I could write an app for his business that would stand a reasonable chance of winning an Apple Design Award. Interesting question and not something any has asked me before. After thinking about it, I pointed out that the characteristics of the app that would lend itself to that award might run contrary to what would benefit his business. Is the point to help your business or win an award? It could be that the two goals are mutually exclusive.
Just now I was thinking about how few tv shows I really enjoy. Older shows are better, in my opinion. And not because they're old.
When you create a reward (or award) system for something, you establish a motivation. Are the writers of this show trying to write the best show, or write the best future award-winning show? Is this supposed to be a motivating movie, or an award-winning motivating movie? I wonder how much Oscars, Emmys and all of those things influence the direction of a film – from conception through execution.
Give me a Knight Rider or Magnum PI episode any day over these modern shows with epic cliffhangers.
