Awesome Kids
On short notice, we took our hoard of children with us to a lawyer's office (no babysitter was available on short notice). The lengthy drive back-and-forth bookended multiple hours in his office. The kids drew in their coloring books, played quietly, read library books and watched a show on an iPad, with essentially no complaining. It wasn't that they enjoyed their time in the office, but they understood that it was unavoidable and that complaining was not appropriate.
If you ever want to test how your kids are doing....
Oh, yeah, on the way home the baby cried for more than an hour until he finally fell asleep. That was...fun.
Once home, they were treated to pizza, ice cream and screen time as a "thank you" for the excellent job they did. I hope to further treat them to no more lengthy trips to the lawyer's office. Just to be clear, there were no such “treat them to something nice” plans that were used to help them be chill at the office.
Parenting is hard work. It is also important work. You never know when you're going to need to depend on it.
