Dear Sir,
It is my hope that one day you'll decide to Google your license plate and that you'll find this blog post. I'm sorry that my bicycle descent from Neel Gap wasn't fast enough for you. Because you held down your horn as you finally raced by I'm going to assume you don't get out and bike in the mountains much. Here's some interesting information.
1. Bicyclists (if I may speak for the group as a whole) don't enjoy having cars ride behind them. It's not just the thought of the bike sliding out of control on one of the turns that concerns me; it's the thought of then being run over by your minivan that is difficult to shake.
2. You're probably not aware of some of the smaller potholes. Safely tucked away in the confines of your purple metal box, they pose little threat to your stability (and longevity); also, the gravel that tends to accumulate in the turns; or the fact that those speed limits painted on the road can be quite slippery.
I mention all of this to explain why I had to brake around some of the turns. However, each time the road straightened out, you may have noticed that I hugged the right side of the lane as closely as I dared. See point #1. You had at least six separate opportunities to safely pass me - all of which you failed to act on.
Finally the hills and turns abated and you worked up the nerve to hit that accelerator pedal and move beyond me. The horn - as I mentioned already - was a nice touch.
Thank you for the memorable experience.
