Baseline the Project Plan
I know people use the term "technobabble", and I certainly hear a lot of talk that fits that description. When conversing with other engineers about a technical subject, such talk is entirely warranted - to effectively (and concisely) communicate. When in a meeting with managers, product and advertising people, there's no excuse for an engineer to evade effective communication by peppering his speech with TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms). However, engineers aren't the only group guilty of this. The product guy at work just sent out an email. I give you a snippet of it:
Please Note! We need to baseline the project plan and
milestone dates (included target completion) by the end
of this week.
We need to WHAT?! I guess I know how the managers, product and advertising people feel when subjected to an ill-mannered engineer.
The fettuccine is calling me. Must go.
