The Colorless Green Ideas Slept Furiously

I've resurrected my Random Sentence Generator project - insofar as I've cracked open the books I bought for the project - which is the first step. I grabbed one book from the pile of sentence structure and diagramming books that I acquired some years ago, started reading, and almost immediately started furiously scribbling notes. Discovering Grammar is the best $59.96 I ever spent. And given its size, that's even expensive for a computer book - which it's not.

However, one would think that the author was a programmer based on the incredibly formulaic approach she takes to describing the rules by which English sentence structure can be (concisely) described. It's amazing stuff, for what it is. Don't laugh.

I'm no closer to understanding how I'll design the database of words behind the program, but I'm so much closer to actually understanding the process of sentence generation and how the program might be modeled. In short, I imagine the process will start with phrase generation which will be fairly disconnected and unimaginative (but allows for sentences of arbitrary length due to the recursive nature of the construction of the phrase types); that'll be followed by the process of movement which'll add a bit of creativity to the sentence form; followed by pronominalization to remove duplicate, specific spellings-out of phrases using pronouns and other proforms (<-- that's a new word for me); followed finally by coordination whereby the phrases will be linked together with conjunctions. There'll probably be other steps, but I'm only on page sixty, so, I don't know about them yet.

I'm trying to think of a good name for the project. A name that's meaning is relevant to randomness or misinformation or something. Any ideas?

Anyway ... time to get back to billable work.
