Eclipse Interface Failures

I don't know about everyone else, but I organize information spatially. A computer desktop is, simplistically, a two dimensional space, and I can put things somewhere on the desktop, and remember where they are instead of their specific file names.

Applying this to IDEs, the ability to open a file in a new window and place that window somewhere on the screen is indispensable. Looking at Eclipse, which forces the entire interface into a single window, and has everything "organized" with tabs, there is no chance to organize things spatially - which means the mass remembering (or forgetting, rather) of file names. They have taken many remedial steps to limit the set through which one must look to find a recently viewed file, but these are nothing more than crutches for a fundamentally flawed design that insists on the user memorizing names instead of taking advantage of our natural ability to organize things in a space.

The more I use Eclipse the more I realize it was very much, "designed by engineers for engineers", and that's not a good thing.

No, Emacs isn't the answer either.
