Follow-Up with the Fruit Company

It was nice to talk to someone other than an HR person. This interview was of a more technical nature, with few questions (only one, really) that pertained at all to my opinion of something - and that was the "ideal job" question. Again. It was easier to answer given the technical context than it was with the HR context.

Other questions included scalability issues with previous projects, differences between TCP and UDP, how TCP congestion control works, Java's behavior as it pertains to passing values, hash table implementations, and some others that I seem to have forgotten.

The TCP questions were very fortuitously timed. Since my latest personal project requires that I implement a TCP-like protocol on top of UDP, I am, as of very recently, familiar with TCP on a level I had not been previously. It was nice being able to mention Karn's algorithm (by name), refer to RTTs and SRTTs, congestion windows and such.

I can only wonder (and hope) that this information is actually relevant to the job he has in mind, because I have my doubts. I'd be stoked if the job function DID require such knowledge, but I don't see how it could. Whatever.

I'm supposed to hear back tomorrow.
