Get a Hobby

My cousin called me up with problems connecting to the mail server. While checking out the server log, I saw lots and lots of lines which read:

Failed password for root from 147.222.163.3 port 58827 ssh2

Some bastard in Spokane, WA (Gonzaga University) was running (most likely) a dictionary attack on my server. Ridiculous. I made sure that root login was turned off, so that he could guess to his heart's content ... but he gave up after ~1,000 attempts.

If I were doing something similarly malicious, I would also make sure that I would be aware if someone were trying to do the same thing to me. So, I tried to log into his machine:

ssh [email protected]

I hope he got my message.
