Guns and Cats

I finally had the chance to test out my new Beretta 90two .40 S&W, and it was everything I had hoped for. For not having done any shooting in several years, I was pleased at being able to hit a person-sized area at one hundred yards. I was unsurprisingly a little less accurate with the hand cannonGlock 29. It's a little intimidating to fire sometimes; and the recoil hurts my trigger finger.

We went to the Chestnut Mountain outdoor range in the Chattahoochee National Forest just north of Calhoun. I had three friends with me: one of whom had not shot a gun in more than ten years (although she had grown up doing so) and two of whom had never seen a gun in-person (they're not from the South, obviously - or the US for that matter). I spent most of the first half hour imitating a broken record of someone saying, "keep the gun pointed down range".

Oh, also, it was ~40 degrees (F) - that's a tilde not a minus - and windy, which might have explained why there were only two other people present. I'll take cold and windy over crowded any day. Lesson learned: bring bricks to weight the target stand.

Next on the acquisition list is a suppressor. I have to find a threaded barrel compatible with the 90two first (it has some funky hinged thing on the barrel that I've never seen before), select a suppressor (there's only a few manufacturers to choose from), find a dealer to work with and start the paperwork. But it'll be sooo cool once I have it.

Oh, and I need to buy some more ammo too. This Wolf ammunition gets mixed reviews, but I've never had any problems with it, and it sure is cheap affordable ($12 for fifty). On the other hand, I wince with pain (and not just due to the recoil) every time I fire a round from the 10mm at $35 for fifty.

Until next time, here's a picture of the Cheshire Cat to get you in an Alice in Wonderland mood. Gotta love that smile.
