I Love Being a Programmer

I love being a programmer.

Not to generalize too much, I'll just make the claims for myself. Typically the technologies that are fresh in my head are only those that pertain to my current job. The others fall by the wayside, although they're usually easily resurrected.

I'm particularly stoked because I have two jobs presently, and they're very different from one another. During the day I'm using C and Objective-C doing application-level development for the iPhone and then in the evenings I masquerade as a Java programmer doing server-level development. Certainly, a number of technologies are left out of this, but its diverse enough to keep me content for now.

On another note, I've been increasingly critical (in mindset) of managers. They sit all day and talk on the phone, send emails, create spreadsheets, graphs and insomnia-eradicating slide shows (aka PowerPoint presentations). And don't even get me started about Blackberry's. Anyway, some fancy bar graph usually adorns their monitors with miscellaneous windows cluttering the foreground. And with all of this, they still don't have anything that compares with the eye-crossing beauty of a graphical debugger.

I love being a programmer.

PS - Do you see the error I made with the pointers in the two visible for-loops? Pretty dumb. If you work too much with those fancy OO-languages you get lazy with your pointers and someone gets hurt. Some purport that pointer-based languages are archaic. Bah. Damn kids. Get off my lawn!
