iButton

iButton

I just ordered an iButton temperature logger (looks like a large watch battery) and a USB reader. Set at a 15 minute interval, the iButton should be able to record the temperature for over forty days without exhausting its internal memory. The battery is rated to last for a decade. And it weighs less than an ounce. So, I should be able to produce a cool temperature graph of the Denali climb.

Based on last year's mistakes (resulting in losing the last couple miles of tracklogs due to the tragic and premature death of the super-cold AA batteries), I've ordered an external antenna for my GPS, so that the GPS can stay toasty-warm inside four layers of insulated clothing, while the antenna hangs out in the cold, chattin' in up with the satellites. So I should be able to merge a graph of altitude (from the GPS) with temperature (from the iButton) for even greater number-fun.
