Instagram is Dead
I guess it shouldn't surprise me that Instagram would go the way of its parent company (Facebook). Sporadically I'll venture back to Facebook, thinking I can catch up on whatever the latest is my friends or relatives are up to, and instead I'm accosted by "suggested posts". I can find no way to simply have a feed of the activity of the people I follow. Incredible.
I weened myself off Instagram, not because it was bad, but because it was too good. I could easily spend far too much time scrolling through pictures. I cut myself off. Years later (not long ago), I ventured back to check it out. Annnd ... it's the same thing. First, every picture now has music that I can't figure out how to mute. Second, the main feed is littered with posts from people I don't follow.
Talk about losing the plot.
I suppose at some point you, as a service, become so ubiquitous that you really cannot do any wrong, so you maximize for profit (user time in the app) instead of providing a valuable service. Maybe they're all desperately competing with TikTok?
It's time for someone else to spring up and replace them. But perhaps it is inevitable that any successful replacement will have the same eventual fate.
