Meta Quest 3

Meta Quest 3

My employer surprised everyone with a gift store – each employee could pick one gift that would be shipped out to you for Christmas. There were numerous coffee-making devices, of course, some knife sets, golf clubs and various gadgets. Nothing really stood out to me as a Must Have, so I ended up getting the Meta Quest 3 because (1) I've never had any VR gadgets, (2) apparently there is some level of virtual desktop support, and (3) if I hated it, my kids would still enjoy it.

When we got home from the in-laws, I found the box sitting at the door. Unpacking the car, feeding the kids other things dominated the evening, but I had enough time that night to get it set up, even if I didn't get to use it much.

The following morning I jumped straight into the only feature I cared about: virtual desktop. It seems that maybe virtual desktop support was a 3rd party thing for a time? I'm not sure. But it is a 1st party feature presently. Setup was seamless. The only problem is the 1920x1080 thing. It's a cool idea, but very much at the "toy" level of usefulness. I've already written about what I want in a VR headset (which isn't really VR at all).

The Vision Pro I Want
What is most irksome is that I know Apple could make this here and now if they wanted to; they’ve got all the requisite tech ready and available. The biggest shortcoming of any beautiful monitor is that you can’t take it with you. If I want peak productivity

With that out of the way, I relegated the Quest 3 over to the kids, which found its "toy" level of usefulness to be perfect. Also, is there really no Minecraft for VR?
