A Social of Anti-Socials

I went to a developer conference thing yesterday. My first one in a very long time. The venue was a nice hotel in midtown. The morning started with a light breakfast and this intensely boring Introductory Session. After that, we all adjourned to our choice of sessions, depending on what topics we were interested in. And lunch came after that.
And lunch was amazing. The variety and amount of food was astounding. Salmon. Lamb. Fresh fruit. Several things I didn't recognize. Good bread. It was a great lunch and made the whole trip worthwhile. Mmm.
Three sessions later, the day was over and the Wine and Cheese reception began. I didn't intend to hang around. Maybe get a glass of wine or something. But then I saw the bread and the brie and I was hooked. I left a couple hours later, having consumed plenty. Some things I noticed:
- Only a software development related wine and cheese function would include soda as a beverage option.
- With a room packed full of software developers, the noise level was very comfortable. The volume didn't just increase without limit throughout the evening (as it would have, had this been a management or marketing function). People were content to talk quietly, or, well, not talk at all.
In addition to a fabulous lunch and reception, our attendance was rewarded with a one-size-fits-all t-shirt. Apparently they don't have high expectations for developer physique, because fully two of me could fit inside this shirt. Oh well. Another shirt to toss in the box.

And on an unrelated note, I think I need to buy this shirt I've got pictured above.
