Spectrum Analyzer [005]

Spectrum Analyzer [005]

I spent the better part of a week working on demodulation - but I haven't produced any sound yet. It's difficult to get straight, concise and understandable information on exactly how to filter and demodulate.

So, I went back to working on the UI. You can now drag the graph horizontally to adjust the frequency; controls fade in/out when the mouse enters/exits the graph view; and small lines track the mouse's location within the view and show the power and frequency corresponding to its location.

And speaking of power and frequency: I know I haven't factored all of the various gains into the power calculation, and that signal in the screenshot, which I assume is AM 750 (ie, 750,000 KHz) isn't anywhere near where it should be. Another problem for another day.

I'm leaving for Ecuador tomorrow. I went out today and bought twenty protein bars, twenty candy bars, several pounds of mixed nuts and chocolates, bagels and freeze dried goodness. I've got new batteries for the GPS and Spot Messenger. A new, smaller and lighter cooking pot. And a flask of King Robert II Scotch, of which I hadn't previously heard, but it was cheap and it tastes good and most importantly, it'll keep we warm on cold nights.

The other half of this expedition is Wes, who has a blog here. If we're able to phone/email in any updates, they'll appear on his blog.

You can watch our progress (via the Spot Messenger) here. It doesn't work in Firefox; but it works fine in Safari and Chrome.
