Peace in the Home

Peace in the Home

My wife has an allergy to empty spaces. I really dislike clutter. Somehow, we survive together.

I returned home yesterday following a “church work day” — two of the kids and I spent the morning tossing stuff in the dumpster, cleaning out storage rooms and other such mundane but necessary tasks — as I walked into the kitchen, my wife gleefully asks me to notice the changes. In short, she has massively decluttered and optimized the entire kitchen. It is vastly improved.

Consider Proverbs 21:9 (ESV), which reads:

It is better to live in a corner of the housetop
than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.

She knows how much I’d appreciate the aesthetic aspects of the changes she had made, but it pales in comparison to the joy of a peaceful household. When I walked in, the kids weren’t in a screaming match with their mom or each other. There was order and warmth.

Keeping home is important. Keeping peace in the home is essential. It starts with your wife. Choose wisely.
