Sabotaging the Chicken
I dry brined the birds for one hour instead of a day, ran pellets I already knew barely smoked, and skipped the step that crisps the skin. Naturally the result lost to the overnight marinated and grilled version. None of that is the smoker's fault. It was a baseline, and I'll do better next time.
Last night S and I discussed her plans for today. She resolved to do a grocery shopping trip next week (her idea) instead of in the morning (my idea). See, all next week is VBS at our church. She has to get all the kids out the door early in the morning (it's a one-hour drive). She's working at VBS the entire time. She'll pack lunches for the kids, which they'll eat at the conclusion of VBS. Finally, she stays late to help with cleanup. And then she's going to run to Costco?? Even if she could swing that, I guarantee the kids would not. And then an hour drive home.
When I got up this morning and started getting ready for a run, S let me know that she was headed out the door with W to get some grocery shopping done! I had to decide between being annoyed that my run was being interrupted, or being delighted that my plan prevailed. :-)
Anyway, I can just go running after she gets back from grocery shopping, except....
