Where to Start

Where to Start
Frogmore Cottage

I need to post something just to get started. These things will flow more naturally with practice.

I spent years posting random thoughts and life updates to my blog. But was it just my blogging, or did the whole idea die with a whimper? It certainly fell out of vogue. (The RSS feed was key to keeping up with one’s favorite blogs. I need to find out what the state of Mac RSS reader apps is.) Perhaps it was just the Vlog taking over. That’s where the money is, after all. If my favorite YouTubers ran blogs, I’d read their posts far more faithfully than I’d watch their ad-laden, sponsor-approved, YouTube-content-policy-policed videos. But I digress.

The lure of the big following is there in everyone’s minds. You have to be clever, become one with the almighty algorithm, and play its ever-changing game. Soon, you too will have a million followers and the private party invites will be yours to disdainfully disregard. Blogging was a simpler affair, even for those with ads and sponsors.

Maybe blogging will have its vinyl records moment. I’ll do my part.

(NetNewsWire is perhaps the simplest app I’ve used in the past decade, but it works. Now I just need to remember what my favorite blogs were, and see if any of them are still around.)

I'll go back through my Excursions blog and re-post all of that content here, but not today.

I know almost nothing about British royalty. Somehow I found myself reading that some royal couple were relocating out of the palace to another residence until their baby was born. I guess the palace was too big? Or too small? Or not private enough? Who knows.

Their temporary residence would be Frogmore Cottage. I decided to Google it. Yeah. Not really roughing it so much. Strange use of the word “cottage.”
