Wow.

So, I'm working on setting up health insurance. One step requires providing details including height, weight and ... waist measurement.

The infographic at the top is what they accosted me with. Pudgy, frumpy fatties. What in the world. Were moderately fit avatars just too offensive? Too difficult for the average customer to relate to? "I don't have a skinny part of my abdomen, so where do I put the tape measure?" – was too frequent a support inquiry?

My country is so gross.

The ICHRA Tax

Anyway, so, health insurance in the United States is a total scam. My employer contributes to something called an ICHRA plan. The plans are so insanely expensive that the employer contributions mostly just takes the sting away. I found a cost sharing provider that serves largely the same function, enrolled my family in that, BUT I ALSO HAVE TO GET ANOTHER PLAN just to qualify for receiving my employer contributions. It's such a scam. It's like this 33% tax on the ICHRA contributions. I'm never going to use that insurance policy for anything, but I have to pay for it just to get access to the rest of the employer contributions.

What a disaster.
