The Perseverance of the Saints
Our bedtime routine (for the kids) includes reading something, followed by discussion of recent events (which I usually frame as "anything to discuss about today or tomorrow?" – I like for the kids to be aware of the next day's plans), prayer and then lights out. Most recently we read through some Bible story book that was gifted to us when W was born last year. I had pretty low expectations, but it was remarkably good. Earlier this week we finished reading Little Pilgrim's Progress (by Helen L. Taylor), which seems to be a child's adaptation of the John Bunyan book. It was genuinely excellent. I'm thinking that maybe we should read the original next? I'm undecided on that.
With H interested in participating in communion at church, we sat down with the pastor to discuss H's readiness. Our pastor provided a printout of Chapter 17 of The Westminster Confession of Faith, on the matter of The Perseverance of the Saints. So I used this printout as our reading material for bedtime last night. Jumping from Little Pilgrim's Progress to this topic was interesting, because the kids all had a fantastic understanding of "who are the saints?" and "what does this mean by perseverance?" and so on. I ain't raisin' no Catholics.
Running on Asphalt
Yesterday, after getting to a good stopping point at work I wanted to get out and stretch my legs. Only J was interested in accompanying me, so we headed off to take the trash out and over to the park. J brought her bike. I jogged some laps on the perimeter trail while she rode her bike. This gave me renewed appreciation for trail running because wow does running on asphalt suck a lot compared to dirt and rocks.
DEXA Body Scan
I'm just getting a half day of work in today because I have to make the hour and a half trek to a DEXA body scan place for a $99 scan. Monday, I'm headed to a lab for a blood draw for Function Health. I've got on Oura ring on the way and a Dexcom Stelo (glucose monitor) as well. So many new toys. Free toys are the best.
