You Have to Meet Me Half Way

When the baby fusses to be rescued from the living room, I crouch a few feet away and motion for him to crawl to me. He rarely budges. So I explain the theology of it: just like dispensationalism, you have to meet me half way. Not that we believe in dispensationalism here, of course.

Lost in the woods: the best way to double your workout.

Exercise

I went running two days ago, hiking yesterday; running was the right option for today – my usual five mile trail run down to the lake and back.

I prefer desolate trails where I don't have to see anyone, but when I do see people, I am sure to push harder, pick up my pace a little, keep running instead of walking, etc. I'd undoubtedly perform a lot better if there was a steady stream of people on the trail. I'm still quite thankful there is no such a stream.

When I was on the final stretch of the run, I texted S:

C: I'm about twenty minutes out. You could go hiking or walking or something when I get back.

W was taking a nap, the other kids were watching their Saturday morning cartoons, so, much to my delight, S decided to take me up on the hike! I was convinced that she'd probably run into a bear and swear off hiking forever. Instead, she managed to get lost and turned her projected thirty minute hike into an hour long adventure. But she got in an hour long workout! And she didn't need me to come rescue her, which is a good thing, because my legs were shot after running back up the mountain to get home.
