Someone Should Invent Pool Spiders

Unlike running along the valley trail in the morning, there are no spider webs lurking in the swimming pool, precisely strung up to be caught by my face, and I really like that about swimming pools. Also, I'm far less likely to sprain an ankle in the pool. Someone should invent pool spiders.

Now you can enjoy spider webs in your face while swimming, just like while trail running!

Swimming & Gym Hours

The gym has an official opening time of 06:15. Sometimes, at the opening employee's discretion, it could open as early as 05:45. It's kind of a crapshoot since I don't know the employees or their schedules. I finally decided to learn more about this (maybe the schedule is posted somewhere). Instead what I learned is that the gym has a new opening time: 5am!

So, now the struggle: I could continue to sleep until 05:30, but then I have to see a dozen people at the gym. Or I could set my alarm for 04:30, and probably, roughly, have the place to myself. The struggle is real.

This morning I finally got to a thousand yards. It took twenty-six minutes, which is basically the same pace I swam at yesterday (albeit with shoulders that were still tired from yesterday's swim). I'm 76% of the way to my goal of swimming a mile. I think I'll need to throw some running back into the mix to give my shoulders a break though.

Date Distance (Yards) Time (Minutes) Pace (Per 100yds)
2026-08-28 500 25 5.00
2026-08-31 600 20 3.33
2026-09-01 650 20 3.08
2026-09-03 800 21 2.63
2026-09-04 1,000 26 2.60

My shoulders get the weekend off.

Unlike running along the valley trail in the early morning, there are no spider webs lurking in the swimming pool, precisely strung up to be caught by my face, and I really like that about swimming pools. Also, I'm far less likely to sprain an ankle in the pool. Another bonus! Maybe someone should invent pool spiders.

J asked me to take her to the gym one morning. My hopes of hitting the gym at 5am are fading fast. K expressed interest as well. Now I'm wondering: do I take one kid each morning, say three days a week? Or do I have a "kid day" once a week where I take all three kids?
