Protein, Burpees & Waterfalls

Protein, Burpees & Waterfalls

Some time ago I wanted a reputable protein powder that hopefully didn't taste terrible. I've got a friend who is a competitive power lifter and owns his own gym. I asked him. He told me to get ATP Labs Supreme Beef. I did. I liked it. And then it went out of stock. And it remained out of stock for months. I finally got tired of waiting and moved on. Interesting side note. One day I complained to him about it being out of stock, thinking he was dealing with the same annoyance I was. He says,

ATP Labs? No. I wish. I never use their stuff. It is waaaay too expensive for me.

Ha.

I moved on to this stuff: MuscleMeds CARNIVOR Beef Protein Isolate Powder. It is cheap, but it is from Amazon, and I'm always a little concerned about eating things I buy from Amazon. That didn't stop me from being content with it through several tubs though. (I don't like buying food by the tub.)

Finally I did some research and landed on Paleo Pro Protein Powder. It is more than 2x the price (per serving), but it has far fewer carbs, fewer ingredients and I'm buying it direct from the source. Also, apparently it uses a mix of beef protein and egg protein. I dig that. I got the Ancient Cacao. It is not amazing. It tastes like you mixed in too much water with your fake chocolate drink. But, I'm not buying this stuff for the flavor.

Anyway, all that to say: don't put stuff in your body that you buy from Amazon. Everyone should know better, myself included.

Burpees

My body isn't (yet) quite on board with running daily, although it is getting much closer. Meanwhile, I need something to do on the "off days". My routine so far had only included push-ups and pull-ups. Sadly, no one has sponsored me for $10/push-up yet. I hold out hope. I decided that burpees was the logical thing to mix in.

K, H and J were just goofing around while S, A and W were out grocery shopping so I invited them do burpees with me out in the driveway. H and J were eager, while K was excited to keep playing legos instead (which I fully expected).

Out to the driveway we went. I gave them a tutorial on the jump, the squat, the plank and the pushup. We worked through each of the motions one at a time and then finally combined them together and started doing sets. They easily knocked out a set of ten followed by a set of five. Very impressive!

A Walk to the Waterfalls

J asked me this afternoon if I wanted to go on a walk. I expected H to come along, but he was busy playing with W. We walked down the mountain, along the trail to the water wheel and then back up to the waterfalls for some time in the creek. The walk back up the mountain is never as much fun. But it was good exercise and we got some cool spring air in our lungs.

I still need to dig around and see if I can find one of my old backpacks, so that I can try to plan a mid-day work trip down there – where I work (via Starlink) while the kiddos play. As long as the snacks don't run out, they never get bored.
