Dad, a Tortoise!

How do you ask your wife not to overcook the expensive salmon she just surprised you with? Gently, prefaced with several gratitudes. It was as well received as you might imagine. Also, a turtle on the side of a mountain, a decisively vanquished foe, and a son who just wants to eat raw veggies.

Dad, a Tortoise!

It was, of course, not actually a tortoise, but it was only slightly less unusual. We don't see many turtles of any sort up near our house, what with the steep mountains and all that. There's flowing water in the area-ish, but it's 100s of feet downhill. Anyway, the kids were elated. The turtle was less elated about all of the unsolicited attention.

Running

I am rapidly vanquishing my foes.

I'm really digging my new routine, which involves a thirty-five minute / two mile (mostly uphill) hike (on roads) to the trailhead. This is plenty of time for my legs to get warmed up. And if I decide that I don't want to run, I can just continue up the mountain and do a hike.
