Programmer Discrimination
Half a dozen new hires, all Indian, in an office where everyone else is also Indian. A person inclined to conspiracy might wonder. I sometimes wonder if I was hired to be the token white guy. Not that I'm complaining; being the office authority on English plays well with my ego.
I'm looking at half a dozen new hires. Five males. One female. All Indian. A person inclined to conspiracy theories might wonder if this wasn't coincidental - which conspiratorial tendencies might be fed by the fact that *everyone* else in the office is Indian. Hmm.
I wonder sometimes whether I was hired to be the token White guy. "See? We don't discriminate. There's a white guy over there in the corner. Uh huh."
Not that I'm complaining. I like my job. And being the person in the office with (by far) the greatest command of the English language (or any command of the English language whatsoever) certainly plays well with my ego.
