Swimming, Waterfalls, Cereal, Birthdays & Photography
"J" and I got some lap swimming in at 5:30am. "A" turned five years old. We visited a giant waterfall. I'm going to wean my kids off cereal. I got my wireless Sony camera sync app working. And we're smoking ribs tomorrow.
Gym Trip with J
This was the first gym trip with J. Unlike K, she does enjoy lap swimming, so she knocked out four laps (or so she claims) while I swam. Then she spent some time with her feet in the hot tub, waiting on me to finish. On the drive home I asked about why she only swam for a little while.
J: I don't like swimming in cold water.
That's particularly funny, because as far as lap pools are concerned, this one is far too warm. It feels nice when you jump in, and that's the problem. Also, the temperature varies day-to-day. Today, it was almost cool enough.
It's also funny because I've seen my kids – more than once – swimming in outdoor pools when the water was veeeeeery cold. They're shivering, their lips are distinctly blue and they have huge smiles on their faces while they run and jump and splash. The in-door lap pool is not that cold.

My swimming performance was on par with last time, although I was a bit distracted by having to stop several times to talk with J. Maybe I would have finished up a minute or two earlier otherwise? But I finished in the same amount of time despite having to stop, which I guess means that I was swimming faster.
After swimming, we moved over to the main gym area. I got J situated on a treadmill (my kids have a strange fascination with treadmills). She was very nervous at first (they are giant treadmills compared to a six year old), but soon enough she was tapping the speed up, bit by bit. She maxed out at a decent walking speed. I bet she'll start jogging after a few more visits.
I overheard, off in the distance, the front desk lady chatting, "oh, that's J on the treadmill!"
