The Lime Wire Sardine Can
When I worked at Lime Wire in SoHo NYC, when I first hired on, the developers had a "pod" of desks. It was relatively spacious. We each had six or eight feet of desk space. It was open, which wasn't ideal, but with only a half dozen or so developers, it wasn't overly noisy.
Management started telling us about expanding into new office space. Exciting, right? Time has taught me that it is never for the benefit of the rank-and-file. I don't recall exactly who it benefited, but it moved our group and some other engineering groups into a giant sardine can. It was shiny, new and impossibly cramped.
And then they lost that giant lawsuit and the whole thing went away.
That reminds me: I saw Lime Wire start popping up on Twitter and LinkedIn a while back. I reached out to say hi but never got a response. I'm curious about what happened. Did some group just buy the name to leverage it for their own product?
