Apple's WWDC: Gas Pump Quality Infotainment
Apple demoed the new Siri which looks suspiciously like the old Siri they demoed ten years ago. I ran the worst five miles of my life, bringing shame to my family name, but thankfully not as much shame as Apple's WWDC keynote.
It's that time of year when Apple holds WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference). It had been going downhill for a while. They switched to a CGI-heavy, pre-recorded format in 2020, and that basically sealed its fate as a joke. From an informative and occasionally captivating presentation to a long, boring infotainment commercial thing that I'd expect to see my gas pump playing.
With all of that in mind, today's WWDC Keynote was impressively worse than average. They announced the name of the next version of macOS (Golden Gate), and then spent an eternity explaining that Siri has AI integration. Interestingly, all of the Siri demoes looked extremely similar to the Siri demoes from a decade ago.
I don't know how else to describe the keynote other than "awful". I would note these three positive elements:
