How to Run Ads on Reddit
It's really quite simple to run ads on Reddit. Just do the backend pixel work, build your campaign, launch it, watch every ad get flagged illegal with no explanation, find no way to contact support, and book a 30-minute sales call to get a human to fix it. See? Very easy.
It's really quite simple to run ads on Reddit. Just the same, let me walk you through the steps so you can be prepared.
- Discover
ads.reddit.com, create an account and all that. - Learn about Reddit Pixel tracking and CAPI (Conversion API). Do a bunch of backend integration work so that the advertising system can better target your ads.
- Define your first ad campaign, ad group, audience, keywords, demographics, and (tediously) each individual ad.
- Provide some payment information and launch your ad campaign!
- Note that all of your ads are disabled / unapproved automatically and marked as "illegal" or some other tag that is accompanied by no concrete explanation, nor an appeal process.
- Talk to the AI bot in the corner, which can't help you with anything.
- Search in vain for a support contact form, email address, phone number or anything.
- Sign up for a 30 minute sales presentation the following day.
- Wait a day.
- Get on call with the "customer partner" and describe the issue, which he happily resolves for you by getting in touch with the "internal only" team that handles ad moderation – the team that you cannot contact yourself.
- Finally see your ads approved, and your campaign running!
See? It really is very easy!
Meanwhile though, I haven't heard from the X Ads team in two days. Interestingly, you cannot disable an X Ads ad campaign. Instead, I set a $0.01 daily budget, and $0.01 max spend, and a start date of next year. I could delete the campaigns, but it was so much work to get it all configured.
