Turns Out He's the Maid Today
For a week I gently reminded the kids: wash your dishes or load them, but do not dump them in the sink for "the maid" to deal with. K did it anyway. So, K became the maid for the day.
J once again offered to help with breakfast. I really need to let her do the actual cooking, but due to A and K generally not loving eggs, I have to cook them perfectly for the meal to be well received.
Dish Duty
Well, K is on "dish duty" for the day. I made up this punishment on the spot. The kitchen has zero dirty dishes in it. The dishwasher is empty. I've spent the last week gently reminding everyone that they can wash their dirty dishes, or load them in the dishwasher. What they may not do is dump their dirty dishes in the sink, walk away, and expect "the maid" to clean up after them – which is exactly what K did. After a week of being reminded. Jokes on him: turns out he is the maid today. So, he can deal with all of the dirty dishes. Fortunately for him, there aren't usually many dirty dishes to deal with.
Fast forward a bit, and I hear H whining at K to stop ruining their card game. K is looking at their cards and telling them what each person has. That sounds like K needs some chores to do. After he dealt with the household trash and a load of laundry, I sent him back to bed. I am suspicious that he stayed up really late reading. I need to get back into the habit of reminding him every single night to close his Kindle by 9pm.
