Are There Bears Under Your Stairs?

The first bear of the season didn't just pass through. It strolled under a neighbor's porch and moved in. I have questions. I will not be getting close enough to ask them.

Are There Bears Under Your Stairs?

I wanted to get out and do something this morning, but the valley trail was sounding boring. The hiking trail was probably covered with spider webs. I'm tired of spider webs in my face, so that was a 'no'. I decided to walk the roads and then do the upper trail (fewer spider webs) to the top of the neighborhood. I crossed paths with a guy who was running down the mountain trail. As he flew by I only heard him say:

I'm just trying not to face-plant!!

And then he was gone.

I'm envious of his knees. Or not envious. I'm not sure which.

Afterwards, on the walk back home, I finally saw a bear – first one this season, which is a little crazy. The bear walked past some Mexican painters, along a driveway and then casually strolled under a porch. I'm imagining the porch serves as a den for this bear family. I'm curious, but not curious enough to go anywhere near it. I'm guessing the homeowner isn't home much.
