Starving on my way home from being paid $125 to give my opinion on bacon, I grabbed a bottle of wine. The cashier asked if this Pinot Noir tastes like Merlot. "I certainly hope not." That killed the conversation.

Two weeks on, I'd do the grueling four-day hike again, given the chance, ideally with an extra day to explore the caldera. I overlaid my GPS track logs on Google Earth imagery, and I learned to tape my toes. Lessons learned the hard way.

Pictures from the four-day hike up Mauna Loa, plus a beach in O'ahu. I left just before a 6.6 earthquake knocked out power across nearly the whole state, including all of Waikiki. Still chasing those thirty-foot waves at Waimea.
She Didn't Mean Anything
Back from vacation, I gave my Audi a big hug and confessed I'd spent the week driving a Taurus. It, of course, didn't mean anything. New tires later, I think we're okay now.
Leaving on a Jet Plane
Unlike John Denver, I know exactly when I'll be back, and I'm looking forward to leaving. He clearly wasn't talking about Hawaii. A tally of in-flight drinks, while the little people suffered with their snack packs.

It finally arrived at 19:18 this evening, much to my surprise, and only a full week late on a two-day delivery. Never again.

Still no package. A trace agent and I both failed to reach anyone at the local delivery center, so she sent a message and told me to call back tomorrow. I leave Friday. Meanwhile, UPS just made three on-time deliveries.
