FedEx Ground Sucks, Day 8 Still nothing. The guy in Pittsburgh explains my package is somewhere among several thousand others and can't be located. I left a voicemail for a manager named Deborah. Haven't heard back. Grrr.
FedEx Ground Sucks, Day 7 Friday's guy never called back and the tracking page hasn't moved all weekend. Turns out Home Delivery doesn't run Sundays or Mondays, and today the place was closed. She seemed hopeful about tomorrow. Riiiight.
FedEx Ground Sucks, Day 4 Delivery day, again. The local center guy promised to locate the package and call me back by 5pm. While I appreciate the enthusiasm, I'm not actually expecting him to call ever. 5pm came and went.
FedEx Ground Sucks, Day 3 Delivery day, and then the dreaded shipment exception: cannot locate recipient. FedEx Over-Night finds my new-neighborhood house. So does DHL. FedEx Ground persists in wallowing in its incompetence.
FedEx Ground Sucks, Day 2 No update to the tracking page. I know this because I check every 15 to 20 seconds. FedEx's web servers have never known load like they do when I'm expecting a delivery.
FedEx Ground Sucks, Day 1 Ordered a cable-only Empower airplane adapter for my PowerBook. Processed and shipped same day (speedy), delivery via FedEx Ground (crap). The tracking number is live and it's off.
Get a Hobby My cousin's mail server log was full of failed root logins from some guy at Gonzaga running a dictionary attack. Root login was off, so he could guess all he liked. Then I tried logging into his machine with a message of my own.
My Fifteen Minutes Avoiding the website for my latest project, I went Googling my old free banner-ad program, BannerFusion, from 1999. Forums, reviews, and one guy's resume claiming he worked on its development. I had my fifteen minutes and didn't even know it.
Stealing Water and Netmasks A neighbor watering his lawn with a hose plugged into the unsold house next door, plus a walk through the math of whether an IP address falls within a subnet using (r & m) = (t & m). Now you know. Or, in most cases, you don't, but you've read it.
